Thanks, Teresa. We are developing program plans for the new facility now and are certainly interested in programs of interest to the neighborhood.
Keep checking our blog for any news about new programs once final decisions are made.

what is the actual location and grand opening date?
fenceposts // February 26, 2008 at 3:42 pm |
Diane, the new North Park YMCA will be located on North Beach Road, just north of Shiver Road at North Park, just past the soccer fields on the east side of North Beach.
A specific date for the Grand Opening has not been scheduled yet, but look for early January, 2009.
Thanks for checking on this site…we will continue to update it with news as we begin construction.

What is the cost for a family of four to join?

Eddie,
Family monthly rates will range from $65-$76, with an additional discount for city of Fort Worth residents.

iI am so excited to hear of this new facility! What kind of aquatic program will there be? Will it be indoor or an outdoor aquatic area? January 2009 is a perfect way to start off the new year!!!!
Vanessa // March 29, 2008 at 7:15 am |
Oh and when will you guys be hiring? Will you have some type of job fair?
fenceposts // March 31, 2008 at 9:44 am |
OK, to answer all of your questions…
Our projected completion is for the end of this year, with a Grand Opening planned for early January 2009.
Yes, we will be hiring for the new facility and are already hiring for some part time positions at our current Clark Nowlin YMCA facility right now! You can call the Clark Nowlin YMCA at 817-581-9280
The new North Park YMCA will have an outdoor family-oriented pool because that was the finding of our market research conducted prior to design and construction of the new facility. 62% of adults preferred a recreational pool for swim lessons and outdoor aquactic fun, 24% of adults said either pool was fine and 14% of adults preferred a cool-water exercise pool for lap swimming, etc.
YMCA Plus members who join the North Park YMCA can utilize indoor swimming pools located at other YMCAs if they choose.

I was really hoping there would be an indoor pool, so I could let my membership at 24hr fitness go. Nonetheless I am excited about the new facility!

Do you have individual rates yet?
Also, what about childcare while the parents are exercising?
fenceposts // April 18, 2008 at 2:07 pm |
Yes, we will have YMCA Child Watch available for children of family members while the adults are using the facility. As with our yoga, Pilates and other aerobics classes, Child Watch is provided at no cost as a value for family/household members.
Individual rates are posted here: http://www.nowlinymcafw.org/images/upload/North%20Park%20flierB.pdf

Will the widening of the adjacent road, North Beach Street, be part of your ‘YMCA’ financial responsibility or will citizens not expect any road improvements throught ‘YMCA’ at the North Park facility?
Thanks in advance…

Moving back to Summerfields from Arizona in May. Where, exactly, is this new Y going to be located? How far from Western Center Blvd and Beach??? We active members at the Y here in Phoenix, and were hoping there would be a Y close to our new home.
fenceposts // May 19, 2008 at 2:59 pm |
Thanks for the questions! The new North Park YMCA will be located at N. Beach and Shiver Road, about 3 miles north of the current facility on Basswood. Any road construction or widening is the responsbility of the city, not the YMCA.
A list of the amenities offered at the new facility can be found at http://www.nowlinymcafw.org/images/upload/North%20Park%20flierB.pdf

I am super excited for the new YMCA to be completed! We live across the street and get to enjoy the construction of the new facility. I am so glad that it will be something that my family and I can utilize rather than another strip mall. I can’t wait to join and see everything that this Y will offer!!
April // May 29, 2008 at 2:18 pm |
By the way – a nadatorium would be a HUGE plus in the area. I have been interested in swim lessons for my kids in the “off” season. The swim schools that operate year round are SO expensive. I’m talking at least double what the Y charges! There isn’t an indoor pool around that has the convienence of your location. I sure hope you consider adding the indoor pool!
jose // June 5, 2008 at 3:35 pm |
is this the one being constructed beside WALMART?
fenceposts // June 6, 2008 at 8:12 am |
No Jose, the North Park YMCA is being constructed at North Beach and Shiver near soccer fields owned by the City of Fort Worth.

Just curious about your Child Watch program. Do you conduct background checks on your employees and those who work in the Child Watch program? Thanks!

Will the new Y offer any type of childrens summer programs for working parents?
Ray // June 27, 2008 at 9:34 am |
Will there be indoor basketball court @ this YMCA site?
fenceposts // June 27, 2008 at 1:23 pm |
Thanks again for the questions! Plans are still in development for the complete list of children’s programs that will be available next summer at the North Park YMCA. However, we will offer Child Watch at the facility year-round and background checks are conducted on staff.
There will not be an indoor basketball court built in this first phase. We are hoping to be able to add a gymnasium with basketball court later, but first we wanted to build the things the community most requested in our research – a fitness area, outdoor pool & water park and group exercise classrooms.
Sandra // July 18, 2008 at 9:06 am |
So happy to hear about the new YMCA! My kids will love having an outdoor waterpark so close to home!

Will there be a raquetball court?
Jesse // July 31, 2008 at 3:00 pm |
I have spoken to lots of families in this area and all have expressed disappointment, that there won’t be any type of basketball courts. We seem to be overwhelmed with fitness facilities, within a few miles of the Y there is LA fitness, Womacks, 2 Fitness 2000’s and 24 hour fitness. and most of the communities already have outdoor pools. It’s curious that “market research” would find that we need yet another fitness facility and outdoor pool. I live in this community and I don’t remember being asked. It’s too bad, but for now I will drive past the Y to go to LA Fitness because it meets the needs of my entire family.
Mark // July 31, 2008 at 3:56 pm |
In know that Fort Worth City taxes are paying for half of the construction and that there are supposed to be city meeting facilities in place. But I only see multipurpose type rooms that I am guessing will be class rooms with mirrors and wood floors. Will there be meeting rooms as well? And if so will if have tables and chairs and how many will it seat? Will these rooms have A/V functions for presentations as well? I also understand that the facility is for use by the community for free but what exactly is being offered for free?
Darell J. // July 31, 2008 at 8:12 pm |
Can you tell me more about the full-time job positions that will be opening up at the new YMCA? Where will they be posted and when should I be looking for them to appear? I don’t want to miss a great opportunity!
Thanks!
Karen // August 4, 2008 at 3:15 pm |
So with this big of a Y is that correct that only family oriented indoor pool? And so people that need to swim year round will not be able to?
fenceposts // August 4, 2008 at 3:52 pm |
To answer some of your latest questions…
Yes, there will be meeting rooms available for community groups to utilize with tables & chairs.
For job opportunities, you can contact the Clark Nowlin YMCA at 817-581-9280
As far as other facilites, the following link will show you the current planned amenities: http://www.nowlinymcafw.org/images/upload/North%20Park%20flierB.pdf
The features of the new North Park YMA were determined by answers to our market research study which polled a proportionate number of households in the area. This research showed 62% of adults in our community preferred a recreational pool, compared to 14% of adults who preferred an indoor, exercise pool. Only 24% of the respondents requested a pool for lap swimming.
Also, when asked about indoor recreational activities only 12% of adults listed basketball as a preferred option.
Our first priority was to serve the highest expressed needs of the community. We do hope that we will be able to expand services at the North Park YMCA to include additional features in the future.
atreutx // August 7, 2008 at 9:03 am |
Glad to see the Y expanding to meet growing community needs! Cant wait until you open!
One question, I know currently there is only the outdoor water recreation area, but are there any future plans for indoor?? Besides lap swimming…the kids also love to be able to swim through the winter recreationally. Visted a Y in Wisconsin which of course only had indoor due to weather. But it was wonderful for the family to hang out.
Thank you for your time!

What is the advantage of purchasing a membershp when pre-sale begins on 9/1? Is there a discount? Very excited to have a new Y just around the corner. We are not currently members, but are considering joining!
fenceposts // August 18, 2008 at 1:13 pm |
Thanks again for all the comments! Yes, pre-sales for the new North Park YMCA will begin September 1st, which also coincides with a YMCA membership promotion. Joining the North Park YMCA in September will allow new members to “Pay the Day” on their joining fee. (On Sept. 1st, the fee is $1, on the 2nd, it is $2, etc.)
Vin // August 23, 2008 at 7:15 pm |
Please PLEASE add an indoor basketball court. I am c current member and dont want to leave the Y because you guys didnt have an indoor basketball court or because we cant swim indoors. Most of the new developments already have rec pools so having an indoor pool with laps will be great. HEAR YOUR CUSTOMERS.
fenceposts // August 27, 2008 at 1:03 pm |
We hear ya, Vin! Although the indoor gym/basketball courts and indoor pool aren’t part of the first phase, we hope to be able to add them soon. The first phase will include 6,000 square feet of fitness space with cardio & strength training equipment as well as space for group exercise classes such as yoga, Pilates and Spinning.
Mary // August 29, 2008 at 11:42 am |

fenceposts // September 22, 2008 at 9:33 am |
Excitement is building for the new North Park YMCA! To answer some of your questions,
the hours of operation for the new facility will be:
Mon-Thur 5:30am – 10:00pm
Friday 5:30am – 9:00pm
Saturday 8:00am – 6:00pm
Sunday 1:00pm – 5:00pm
Exact hours for Child Watch have not yet been determined and the Group Exercise schedule will be posted one week before opening.
And to answer CJ’s question, City of Fort Worth residents will receive a 10% discount off their monthly membership fees.

1. A Free T-shirt for each family member

3. Entry to a drawing for a $100 gas card.
Plus, you’ll get usage of a great facilty when it opens soon!
Elizabeth // November 2, 2008 at 5:11 pm |
We are members of the Keller Pointe, but would definitely prefer to be part of the YMCA since it’s so much closer to our house. The thing that concerns us is the outdoor pool. Is it heated so that it can be used during the winter, or is it only for summer months? That would be a big selling point for us.
Also, are there any benefits as far as joining now instead of waiting until it opens? Thanks so much!
fenceposts // November 3, 2008 at 10:17 am |
Hi Elizabeth!
You are right that the outdoor pool at the Northpark YMCA will just be open during the summer months. The Grand Opening for the pool will be in Spring of 2009.
The Northpark YMCA is holding a Fall Festival on November 15 and will have some joining specials on that day prior to the opening in December. Come by on the 15th for a tour of the facility – and enjoy Radio Disney on site at 9100 North Beach.
Kara // November 14, 2008 at 1:17 pm |
Will daycare be offered at this facility? If so, when can we begin signing up. Thanks!
Chris // November 18, 2008 at 11:23 am |
I have to say that some of the individuals who are complaining about not having an indoor basketball court or pool have to remember that the Y is non-profit. They rely on fees, support form the United Way, grants and memberships to be able to build the types of extra amenitities that you want to see. If you want to see extra stuff then get more people to join. Donate time, donate resources. Give to the Y so they can give to you.
The Y does much more for the community than provide a health center. When I was a young man, my brother was involved in gangs. The Y had a program that worked to intervene in the gangs. It was a street-level hard-core program. So your membership pays for much more than weights and a pool. The Y saved my brother’s life.
fenceposts // November 19, 2008 at 10:42 am |
Thanks, Chris for your support. And Kara, the NORTHPARK YMCA will have ChildWatch available for members while they are working out, but it will not have an all-day childcare program at this time. There are some other child development programs run by the Fort Worth YMCA; they are located in downtown Fort Worth or south of the city, though.
mary // December 1, 2008 at 2:44 pm |
Just want to make sure you will have fitness classes for those of us younger than 60!
We need a variety of different classes aimed at getting us in shape, not just catering to the seniors.
Mary
Karen // December 28, 2008 at 5:56 pm |
There doesn’t seem to be recent posts, but since “grand opening” festivities are going on until early January, can you let us know if there are still incentives to join early since it is technically “open” already and in use?
I’ve seen different articles about a discounted joining fee still being offered in December but wanted to check. Also, is the gift package mentioned in earlier post on 10/7 to Staci still in effect?
fenceposts // October 7, 2008 at 3:17 pm
Any family or individual who signs up now will receive the following free gift/package:
1. A Free T-shirt for each family member
2. $10 “Y-Bucks” good for $10 off any YMCA program
3. Entry to a drawing for a $100 gas card.
Karen // December 28, 2008 at 6:00 pm |
Also, I’m somewhat torn about the membership because it is just myself and an almost 17 yr old daughter who would be joining to it looks like our only option is the “family” rate which is a bit more than I had budgeted for just the 2 of us, especially when she’ll be going to college in 1 more year.
I’ve tried calling the phone # listed (Clark Nowlin’s number) to get more info but couldn’t get an answer today. Are we committing to an annual amount or is it a month by month commitment? From what I remember it is an annual one.
fenceposts // December 29, 2008 at 12:16 pm |
Hi Karen,
Thanks for your interest in the Northpark YMCA. Starting today, the Northpark YMCA will be offering a $1 joining fee for all new members through January 1, 2009. In January, the YMCA will be offering a Pay the Day promotion in which the joining fee equals the date, so on the 2nd, it will be $2 and on the 3rd, it’s $3, etc. The joining fee normally ranges from $60-$150. And the YMCA does not have contracts, so you are not tied to an annual membership at all. If you can, stop by the YMCA or give them a call again and they can discuss with you the best type of membership for your situation. We will work with you to find the right fit!

The new “pool” looks like more of a little play and splash area for toddlers. Is there any water in there that’s deep enough to actually swim?
What’s happening with the old Clarke Nowlin pool? Is it being maintained?
fenceposts // May 18, 2009 at 8:43 am |
Actually, the new pool at the Northpark YMCA does have a deeper area for swimming, although it was designed mainly as a family water park for kids and parents to enjoy.
The old Clark Nowlin YMCA pool is being maintained as that property is for sale.
Mike // May 18, 2009 at 9:11 am |
Is there any chance that the pool at Clarke Nowlin will go back in service for the summer? I’m sure any child older than 5 years would appreciate a real swimming pool. Those of us living in Park Glen depend on the Y for our community pool.
Andrew // June 22, 2009 at 3:08 pm |
I would really love an Indoor Basketball court, that would be the main attraction for me to attend the Northpark YMCA.
